Australia has defeated USA in style, chasing down USA’s competitive total of 151 with three overs to spare and heading to the top of group 2 with one game left to play.
Steven Paulsen’s 68 from 45 balls stole the show in a man of the match performance which was punctuated by three consecutive sixes in the 17th and final over. Paulsen was once again supported by Brenton Edwards, again showing his brute strength in a destructive innings of 38 from 14 balls, including 4 sixes.
Earlier, captain Jamie Panelli won the toss and this time elected to bowl first. The USA were off to a flyer and lost their first wicket in the sixth over with the score on 53, however from that point onwards the Aussie attack once again showed how difficult they are to dominate with a good all round performance with both the ball and in the field, bowling the USA side out with a ball to spare. Mark Cleary again picking up three wickets, whilst Panelli and Wyld picked up 2 each.
Australia take on Zimbabwe at 3pm AEDT on Thursday November 27, with a win ensuring that the Aussies finish top of the group and secure a semi final match against the second placed team of group one.
