Australia’s O40’s Cricket team have clinched the 2025 World Series Cup in Brisbane, claiming a historical first ever silverware from an O40’s tournament.
Australia, USA, New Zealand and Canada have battled it out over a 14 day ODI and T20 series at Brisbane’s Ian Healy Oval, with Australia defeating surprise packet USA in the championship game.
Captained by South Australian Jamie Panelli, the Australian team escaped the group stages undefeated in a sign that the Australian selectors have found a winning formula heading into the a new 2-year World Cup cycle that includes the IMC o40’s T20 World Cup in Karachi during December 2025, and the IMC ODI World Cup in Barbados in December 2026.
Nathan King, Australian Team Manager said:
“We are delighted by the way the guys played over the last 2 weeks”.
“Not only did we take home our first piece of silverware as a nation at this level, but we defeated both New Zealand and the USA along the way, 2 teams that we previously haven’t beaten.”
“Our focus now turns to the build up to the IMC T20 World Cup in December, and working through the list of talented players in the provisional squad to ultimately pick the squad to travel to Pakistan.”
The next pivotal moment for the players in line for the tour of Pakistan is the franchise based o40’s competition to be played in Brisbane in July. The Toot Byron Cup will provide IMC T20 World Cup hopefuls a last opportunity to demonstrate their quality ahead of the squad announcement in September.
