Australia has opened its account in game 2 of the IMC over 40s World Cup with a win over a strong Rest of the World team.
Winning the toss and batting, captain Jamie Panelli’s men were looking behind the game at 5/37 when Jeff Hemming was dismissed in the 9th over, however a string of gutsy batting performances on a tough pitch saw the Aussies reach 7/151 from their 20 overs. Luke Jackson (28), Brenton Edwards (23) and man of the match Richard Wyld (39 not out) were amongst the contributors helping Australia reach a competitive total.
In reply, the Rest of the World fell behind the game early after a disciplined bowling performance from the experienced Australian bowling unit, eventually running out of steam and finishing on 7/108 after 20. Mark Cleary once again claimed bowling honours with 2/28 off of his 4 overs, with the four spinners chipping in with one wicket a piece.
Australia’s World Cup campaign continues today against the Rest of the Gulf XI who are also 1 win and 1 loss heading into game 3 of the group stages.
