Cricket Australia Masters has announced a 15-man squad to compete in the 2025 International Masters Cricket (IMC) T20 World Cup in Pakistan in December.
Fourteen countries will compete in the inaugural IMC T20 World Cup in Karachi from December 1-13.
Australia will be vying with host nation Pakistan and 2024 IMC ODI World Cup Champions South Africa to take home the trophy, with the final to be played at Karachi’s National Stadium.
It follows Australia’s triumph in the World Series Cup in Brisbane in April when it defeated New Zealand, Canada and the USA in the quad series format.
South Australian Jamie Panelli has been named Captain of the Australian team. Panelli is Kensington Cricket Club’s all-time leading wicket taker and a former South Australian representative player.
Panelli said: ‘It is a huge honour to lead your country to a World Cup at any level, and with a strong squad we will be looking to go deep into the tournament.
“Pakistan will be a formidable opponent with a number of former test and ODI stars expected to be named. But Australia and South Africa are also more than capable of lifting the trophy.
“This age group has undergone huge growth in the last three years, and now with the IMC T20 World Cup scheduled to be staged every second year, we expect the over 40’s category will only get stronger.”
The Australian squad for the 2025 IMC World Cup in Karachi has been selected based on performances at the 2024 Over 40’s National Championships in Perth, Australia’s World Series Cup campaign, and also the recent T20 Toot Byron Cup, a franchise based tournament staged in Brisbane.
